Where Books and Buyers Meet
We're More than Booksellers
We're Booklovers
I have always loved books. It has been a passion of mine since early childhood. Over 40 years ago I started out with just a Bachelor's in English Literature, a sales tax license and a dream. That dream was to own a successful bookstore. I opened my first bookstore in 1983. Fast forward twenty years later, to 2003. Commercial rental property was skyrocketing in price, and book sales were flat. So, I started listing all of my book inventory online, and shipping it from my own warehouse.
Eventually, all of my books were on amazon and were shipping from amazon warehouses. Business boomed for the nearly 10 years. The world was changing, the market was changing and so was I. Years of online selling left me longing for the face to face interaction of a small independently owned bookstore, like the ones I had back in the early 1980s.
I began liquidating, what amazon was warehousing and fulfilling for me when the first eReader's with a pure white background came out in the winter of 2013-2014. I thought about retiring, but just couldn't seem to get away from my passion for books and the readers I met in bookstores. What I really wanted was that old world bookstore I set out to own in 1983. This gave birth Bookhounds a Pennsylvania Company that efforts to live up to the motto - "A Reader's Best Friend" by sourcing the hard to find, out print, and rare books our clients want. In the process of building the Bookhounds brand it and examining estate libraries it became evident that many private collectors had books they or their families would like to liquidate and thus was born bookbyr.com a place where the book collector or his heirs could turn to liquidate their library of books.
